FUN FACTS ABOUT NOVEMBER!

FUN FACTS ABOUT NOVEMBER!

Boy, Oh boy,

I have had such fun finding out about the month of November.  Read below what I found out.  Then you go online or go to your local library and see what more you can find out about November.

NOVEMBER

DID YOU KNOW THAT…

  1. November’s name comes from novem, Latin for “nine.”
  2. In the United States and Canada, November is also known as National Beard Month or No Shave Month (also known as “No-Shave November“) as a way to raise cancer awareness.
  3. All Saints Day is a Christian festival held on November 1 that celebrates the lives of all saints, known and unknown.
  4. Veteran’s Day, when we honor those who have served in the United States Armed Forces, falls annually on November 11. It also coincides with Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which mark the end of World War I.
  5. Thanksgiving, perhaps the most popular of all American holidays after Christmas, is celebrated each year on the third Thursday of November.
  6. We also get to enjoy a rare four-day weekend (with the Friday afterward, known as Black Friday, marking the traditional start of the Christmas shopping season).

That’s just a few fun facts.  Send me some more. Thanks.

THANKSGIVING!

THANKSGIVING!

Hi Guys,

I love the Thanksgiving season, because it helps me to look over my life and see that I am blessed a whole lot.  I know that if I have a house to live in and it’s got a bed and some food and I have clothes to wear and shoes to put on then I am blessed.  In the winter when it’s coldest, I have heat in my house and warm pajamas to put on, and a nice cup of hot chocolate to drink while I read my favorite story on my phone or tablet or I have a real book in my hands, then I am thankful. Very thankful.

So, as this Thanksgiving season begins don’t forget to show thankfulness and thank God for all your blessings.  Also, pray that God will bless other families who don’t have what you have.  Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

Here’s a history of Thanksgiving:

Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday in the United States, and Thanksgiving 2018 occurs on Thursday, November 22. In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. For more than two centuries, days of thanksgiving were celebrated by individual colonies and states. It wasn’t until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November.

READING REALLY ROCKS!

READING REALLY ROCKS!

Hi Guys,

My friend Book man is here to talk to you.

talking_book

Hi there fellow readers.  If there is one really good habit that we should have, it the habit of reading. The Library is the best place to be.  If you go to the library, you’ll see people sitting reading the newspapers and even magazines. You’ll see people buying older books and even videos to take home and watch.

Now you might say, but I have an iPad or a tablet or a cell phone.  THAT’S GREAT! You can read on your tablet and phone, too.  I know one thing for sure.  Whatever you do, and even if you are at home, take your phone and pull up a story, download it and read it.  Guys, remember reading opens up the world to you.  So, LET’S ROCK!

VETERANS DAY

VETERANS DAY

Hi Guys,

Sunday, November 11, 2018 is Veterans Day.  Here’s a brief history of Veterans Day:

kids_thank_vetVeterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. Unlike Memorial Day, Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans—living or dead—but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.

When Is Veterans Day?

Veterans Day occurs on November 11 every year in the United States.

So, be grateful and thankful for all the men and women who serve our great country.  Pray for them and their families, too.

Talk to you later,

Jenny
